Thoughtful Thursday: Important Update for Malaysian Hoteliers on Tourism Tax Regulations

In compliance with the Tourism Tax Act 2017 and the Tourism Tax Regulations 2017 to the local tax regulations, starting on January 1st 2023, Hotel Operators now need to collect, report, and remit the Tourism Tax of MYR10 per room per night from all foreign guests and/or tourists. We have made this easy for STAAH Customers in Malaysia. Hotel operators can insert the notice into their STAAH Booking Engine.

GHM to launch The Chedi brand in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia: General Hotel Management (GHM) has signed The Chedi Wadi Safari in Diriyah. The Chedi and 15 other hotel brands have been announced in Diriyah and Wadi Safari. The project is spearheaded by Diriyah Gate Developments Authority (DGDA) in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Diriyah is currently in its first phase of construction. The 14 kilometre-square project will include hotels, museums, galleries and more, and is expected to attract over 27 million visitors annually.

Fattal Hotel Group acquires The Dilly

UK: Archer Hotel Capital has sold The Dilly hotel in London to Fattal Hotel Group, the owner of Leonardo Hotels. The Dilly, which rebranded from Le Méridien Piccadilly in 2020, offers 283 rooms, two F&B venues, an underground swimming pool, health club, dance studio, florist lobby shop, and seven meeting rooms. When The Dilly launched, it became the first independent hotel owned by Archer Hotel Capital.

HFTP and AHLA reach 10-year USALI agreement

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) and the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals Association (HFTP) have reached a 10-year agreement to jointly produce the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI). The USALI is used all over the world as the “standard” for hospitality accounting, and agreement reverses HFTP’s decision earlier this year to publish the next USALI edition without AHLA’s formal involvement.
