As the world heads toward the holiday season, hoteliers are preparing for demand as people look to travel over Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Amadeus is seeing a peak in demand over the Christmas and New Year period across major markets around the world. Amadeus’ Demand360+ data as of November 27, 2023, showed that global hotel occupancy for the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s is at 23 percent.
Marriott International is expanding its Moxy brand in Australia with the signing of its second Sydney hotel, in partnership with a hotel development consortium, led by Metrics, Rebel Property Group, Pelligra Group and Mustaca Group. The new-build Moxy Sydney Pitt Street, scheduled to open in August 2025, is expected to feature 314 rooms, Sydney’s highest outdoor rooftop bar on level 34, as well as high street retail.

IHG Hotels and Resorts is taking its Voco brand to the New South Wales Central Coast with the signing of a Gosford hotel in partnership with Sydney developer Aland. EVT is expanding its Hotels and Resorts portfolio to international markets with the signing of its first hotel management agreement in Asia. Salter Brothers has secured the keys of luxury South Australia hotel, Sofitel Adelaide, with the global fund manager confirming settlement of its AU$154m acquisition. The 5-star hotel on Currie Street, which opened in 2021, is managed by Accor and consists of 251 guestrooms and suites, Garcon Bleu restaurant, two bars, as well as extensive leisure facilities and meeting spaces.
Hotel development and management company NexGen Hotels has acquired the EVEN Hotel Miami – Airport. The upscale, select-service property will be managed by Genuine Hospitality Group. Lodging Analytics Research & Consulting (LARC) expects U.S. RevPAR to increase by 5.5% to $98.51 this year, resulting in an annual RevPAR 14% above 2019 levels. It anticipates ADR to rise by 4.4% this year to $155.88, or 19% above 2019 levels, while occupancy will increase by 1.0% to 63.2%. Tourism consumption of accommodation and food services in Australia increased by AU$8 billion (19%) in 2022-23 compared to 2018-19, according to new data from the National Tourism Satellite Account.
