There are just a few days left to enter the 2024 Australasia-Pacific Hotel Design Awards, with entries closing at midnight Sunday April 14.
Exceptional new-build hotels, impressive conversion projects and stellar refurbishments – completed and opened in 2023 – from across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific will be recognised this year.
The winners across four categories – for new-build properties, conversions, refurbishments and an overall winner, the Paul Davis Award – will be announced at leading hotel architecture and interior design conference, Design Inn Symposium, which returns to SkyCity Adelaide on Tuesday 30 April 2024.

The esteemed panel of judges for the awards this year includes COOOP Pty Ltd Co-Founder, and Design Partnership Founder & Principal Architect, Callie van der Merwe; Chada Creative Director and Owner, Juliet Ashworth; and Fender Katsalidis Principal, Angela Biddle.
“I am delighted to join the jury of the Australasia Hotel Design Awards once again this year,” said Biddle.
“It is always a pleasure to witness the industry’s leading designers showcase new and innovative approaches to hotel design.”
Ashworth, another returning judge, says the standard each year continues to impress.
“These awards are purely for hospitality design which makes them unique in Australia,” she said.
“Year on year, we see more exciting projects as designers in the region continue to raise the benchmark in this particularly creative field.”
Top tips from the judges
This year, the judges are looking for projects that demonstrate design innovation, a commitment to sustainability design practices and deliver exceptional guest experience.
Biddle says: “A great submission not only includes a beautifully curated selection of images and compelling written content describing the project narrative, but also a clear explanation of how the project advances the practice of hotel design and contributes to the evolution of the hospitality sector.”
Ashworth says when it comes to powerful submissions, it’s all about quality over quantity.
“Good quality photographs are essential for a winning application,” she said.
“Keep answers precise and factual. As judges, we not interested in reading PR puff but are looking for useful information to help us understand the merits of your work.”
While designers, hotel representatives, and owners may enter a project, the designer’s input is required to ensure judges have all of the necessary information about a project.
